Playboy Narrows Second-Quarter Loss

Playboy Enterprises Narrows Second-Quarter Loss Amid Growth in Entertainment, Publishing

CHICAGO (AP) -- Playboy Enterprises Inc. Wednesday said it narrowed its second-quarter loss amid solid revenue growth at its entertainment and publishing divisions.

The Chicago-based adult-entertainment company reported a net loss of $905,000, or 4 cents a share, compared with a loss of $3.1 million, or 12 cents a share, a year earlier.

Revenue rose 7.7 percent to $76 million from $70.6 million.

Revenue at the entertainment group jumped 9.9 percent to $33.8 million, primarily because of restructuring at international television operations.

Publishing revenue grew 6.7 percent to $28.8 million, as Playboy magazine's results benefited from strong newsstand sales for the May issue, which featured World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.'s Torrie Wilson.

In morning trading, shares of Playboy climbed 22 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $13.70, on the New York Stock Exchange
