UPN’s future is certainly looking brighter. The company is now in negotiations with News Corp. to keep their affiliates KCOP in Los Angeles and WWOR in New York. A while back News Corp. filed a $108 million lawsuit against Viacom, UPN’s parent company, claiming that the company owed News Corp. the money, which put a lot of stations that carry SmackDown in jeopardy. If News Corp. would have pulled Viacom programming off of all their stations, UPN as well as its parent company would have fallen apart. Mainly due to WWE’s budget, management decided not to do a Fan Axxess in conjunction with WrestleMania next year. Not sure if anything else contributed to canning the idea, but from what was said, the weekend long extravaganza was a goldmine. However this year, there is not enough room in the budget to produce it. WWE had to cancel the 8/9 SmackDown house show in Little Rock because the advance was too poor.
