Column: "From The Inside" By Jeremy Borash (9/5/2003)
COLUMN: "From The Inside" By Jeremy Borash (9/5/03)
Greetings and salivations from the Music City... from the land of short naps and long hours in the edit suites... it is time for another edition of FROM THE INSIDE... brace yourselves... we have a lot to get to.
I'd like to start off by thanking TNA for the incredible amount of freedom they give me with this column. The only restrictions TNA has ever placed on me is editing something that is in bad taste (most recently, a threat placed on the head of Gary Coleman that was admittedly much too angry for someone of my somewhat pleasant and often charming demeanor) WCW gave me tons of freedom, but I think that was actually because no one ever claimed to be my boss.
My thoughts on the show? It was great. What else could I say? Hats off to everyone. No standout injuries from last Wednesday night, which is amazing considering the long night and amazing things TNA talent did in and out of the ring. Everyone involved in the ten man cage match looked like they had survived a car crash after the show, as the match was certainly brutal on their bodies.
Mad props go out to Marc Donmoyer, who is never afraid to take us to task, but in this case authored a great article on why people should order our one cent show this Wednesday night. Click here to read.
I enjoyed the Super X tourney immensely. I wouldn't mind seeing it offered on a DVD in the near future, as it was as good as X-Division action gets in my book. The Super X Cup Tournament will likely end up being a yearly event. Congrats to all involved. There wasn't a single bad match in the tournament.
A number of TNA wrestlers expressed to management that they would like to be in the next Ultimate X match. Amazing how TNA has talent begging to be in a match where you could almost guarantee a career shortening event. Can you imagine what AJ Styles would do in a match like that? How about the advantage Sabin, Kazarian, and Shane would have in a second bout? Even some of the breakout stars from the Super X tourney like Juvi and Teddy Hart? Whatever the case, whenever it happens, the next Ultimate X match will certainly be a big event.
This Wednesday night, TNA will present two different PPVs. For those of you who subscribe to DirecTV, you will get a preview to our upcoming DVD release of "BEST OF TNA's WORLD TITLE MATCHES." This will be a two hour look back at the best matches TNA has had with the belts on the line. You will see JARRETT/STYLES I, JARRETT/RAVEN, JARRETT/RAVEN/STYLES, and of course, the match that most are considering a shoe-in for match of the year in 2003, the incredible AMW / TRIPLE X cage match from June 26th. This PPV will be offered at the normal price of 9.95. This DVD preview is a must have for all tape collectors.
Those of you who order from iN DEMAND will get the bargain of the year, as we will be offering the most inexpensive PPV in wrestling history. You can see this week's TNA on PPV for just one cent. The one cent PPV will include the following:
A video package featuring the innovations of the X-Division The Ultimate X match (called the most innovative stip match since the ladder match) Sting & Jarrett / Syxx-Pac & Styles Raven/Jarrett (World Title Match) The history between Raven / Shane Douglas, with a special announcement regarding the two News on Roddy Piper coming to TNA Styles/D-Lo (World Title match in a cage) Raven/Styles/Jarrett (Styles world title win) Triple X / America's Most Wanted (mindblowing steel cage match for the Tag Team titles)
and much, much more.
The One Cent show will also be available to fans in Canada watching on ExpressVu and Viewers Choice Canada.
Both presentations will be very important shows for us, so we are going to be throwing everything we have into making sure first time viewers get hooked!
Expect a huge show lineup to be announced for September 17th.
TNA will be advertising during RAW in major markets all over the country promoting this week's One Cent PPV show. Interesting to note that the WWE has been purchasing ads all over Xplosion here in the Nashville market for an upcoming house show for the past several weeks.
My close personal friend Dick Van Patten called and assured me that I am not a name dropper.
Another good Indy story I witnessed first hand... I was completely entertained by a promotion who's champion came out recently wearing a WCW World Title replica belt, representing his top spot in the promotion. The only damper was the ten year old kid in the front row wearing the same exact thing.
I believe TNA Xplosion starts on channel 45 in my hometown of Minneapolis / St. Paul next weekend. We'll have an air time next week.
You Canadian viewers should really enjoy this Wednesday night. With the exchange rate, you are getting by cheap with our One Cent show!
Speaking of Minneapolis... this Sunday night, several TNA stars including Jeff Jarrett, Mad Mikey, and NWA World Champion AJ Styles will be debuting for Force 1 Wrestling, a promotion our good friend Mortimer Plumtree is involved with. Go to their website, www.forcewrestling.com for more information on this Sunday's big event.
3 Live Kru were in the studio last Thursday cutting their new theme song. Expect footage of the sessioin to air on the 17th when we return live.
AMW will doing TNA promotion in Philadelphia this Tuesday and Wednesday. They will be appearing on Good Day Philadelphia on Fox on Tuesday morning, and then they will be appearing on WMMR's morning show as well on Wednesday morning.
Ron "The Truth" Killings will be the co-host of the "Budweiser Lounge" on 106.5 "The End" in Charlotte this Wednesday afternoon, and will be talking about the One Cent show and his recent antics with 3 Live Kru. Rumor has it that strippers will be in the studio. Some guys have all the luck!
I'm off to the mountains of Montana for the weekend. I am going to try and be one with nature... sing with the birds... swim in the streams... pee in the woods... kind of like the Unabomber in his final years minus the hate for government agencies. Have a good weekend and we will see you next Friday!
