Deja Vu All Over Again: MTV Pulls Wrestling Society X; Quick Comments To Why It Was Pulled, & Overhype It Received

"You spin me right round baby right round, Like a record baby, right round round round..." - Dead Or Alive 1984.

Rather than write a whole new article on this story, I prefer to just repost what we wrote two weeks ago.

For those that aren't aware, news coming out of MTV tonight is that Wrestling Society X has once again been pulled. This time however, it appears to be permanent.

It's a shame that this had to happen. Again I can't understand why MTV just doesn't give it a late night / overnight timeslot instead. But MTV hierarchy are as responsible as Anna Nicole Smith.

Again rather than writing a whole new rant about this, here's our article from February 15, 2007. It pretty much sums up the ongoing story regarding MTV and WSX. Unfortunately for some out there, this will seem off the wall. Because as they were told elsewhere, live over at MTV for WSX was Hunky Dory. Well, it wasn't. Here's our 2/15 article:

MTV has pulled Wrestling Society X off their network. I will tell everyone reading this right now something very important. We pointed out over the last four months, that there were several websites way over hyping this product. Over hyping it to the point that they actually called WSX a 'legitimate third brand'.

Although I was in total support of the product and the people behind it, I also reminded everyone to be realistic about WSX. There were a lot of people formally from XPW that desired the spotlight they received thru this project. The show was only 30 minutes and provided some good fast paced fun. However a 'legitimate third brand?'. If you over hype something to make it out to be more than what it is, you create big problems. Especially if MTV decided to pull the plug on this project. And that is what has happened.

Now those same websites that over hyped it, will give you 100 reasons why it was pulled. The bottom line is that the product was attractive to a very small audience. The ratings have plummeted in 3 weeks time.

MTV wants to take their programming in a different direction. Of course they could decide to air this once again. I would not be surprised if it aired late night (Midnight and beyond), or weekends. It could go back to its Tuesday time slot. But I can assure everyone, if the ratings were strong, the product wouldn't have been pulled.

I am hearing that there was a complaint about the product. If that be the case, I can see MTV just moving it to an overnight time slot. Look at some of the controversial and politically incorrect programming they have aired over the years. Simply not moving it to an overnight time slot speaks volumes in my opinion.
