Mike Alfonso (aka Mike Awesome) Passes Away At 42 From An Apparant Suicide
Very sad and tragic news to report. Former ECW Heavyweight Champion, and former WWE, WCW, and Japanese superstar Mike Awesome (real name Mike Alfonso) has died. He was only 42 years old.
Early reports I am receiving is that he was found dead in his Tampa, Florida home over the weekend of an apparant suicide. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that the nature of the suicide is that he hung himself.
I know he had been selling real estate in Florida and there were rumors he had some $$$ issues. There's another claim going around that Mike had been suffering from diabetes and had other health issues. There is also an outrageous report going around a few Japanese websites that his death was related to ties with the Yakuza. Let me stress that there is nothing to substantiate that claim.
Personally there has to be much more behind this and I don't want to speculate. Once the proper channels update the details surrounding his death, we will post it on the website.
