Wrestler was injecting son with growth hormones
WWE wrestler Chris Benoit had been injecting his son with growth hormone officials revealed. The coroner found injection marks in Daniel's arm when they investigated his murder. Benoit strangled his wife Nancy before smothering his son in a case that has rocked the wrestling world. Benoit was apparently pumping human-growth hormone into his seven-year-old son in the weeks before he killed his wife, the boy and himself at their suburban Atlanta home, a prosecutor said yesterday.
Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said Daniel Benoit had needle marks on his arm. Ballard said he believed the boy had been given growth hormone because his parents considered the boy undersized.
"The boy was very small, even dwarfed," Ballard said. The findings came as a woman who tried to contact the Benoit family claimed the son suffered from a rare genetic condition. He suffered from Fragile X syndrome, which causes mild mental retardation. A woman whose son also suffers from the condition, told a Canadian news outlet that her husband reached out to Benoit five years ago in an attempt to increase awareness about Fragile X.
Pam Winthrope told News 1130, "We talked to him because I was trying to set up a support group in BC and in Canada, we only have a couple of them. My husband was struggling when we got diagnosed with our son, and Chris was struggling with his.
"They talked for a few minutes and then he said he didn't want to be a public face for Fragile X, he just wanted to keep it really, really quiet." Winthrope noted that the lack of support for those affected by the disorder can tear families apart. Nonetheless, "she couldn't believe the news that Benoit had taken his life along with his wife and 7-year-old son."
District Attorney Scott Ballard said the boy had injuries to his throat, but showed no bruises. Previous reports have said the boy had been smothered or strangled. Nancy Benoit, 43, had bruises on her back and stomach, Ballard said. Benoit, 40, was found seated against a home gym machine in the basement of his home.
