Raw Rating Drops; WWE Writes Off 'The Condemned' As A Loss, DVD Release Date
One week has passed since the 'Explosion of Mr McMahon' during the special Draft edition of Raw. And to continue from Smackdown, Raw's rating this week dropped.
Raw for 6/18/2007 scored a 4.1 1/2 rating off of hours 4.1 and 4.2. When compared to the last two hours of last week's Raw (4.0 and 4.3), the rating is down.
Last night during the Minority Report Webcast, we had a facinating discussion analyzing the storyline. The end result of this horrendous angle, WWE is losing more viewers than gaining via mainstream publicity it generates.
Never run a major storyline that is designed to offend and turn away viewers rather than attracting them.
WWE issued the following Press Release officially writing off The Condemned (starring Steve Austin) as a pretty big finanacial loss:
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following successful releases of “See No Evil” and “The Marine,” WWE Films, a wholly-owned subsidiary of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:WWE), announced today that it has re-evaluated expectations for its feature film, “The Condemned” and has recorded a related impairment charge of $15.7 million.
The charge, which will be included in the second quarter 2007 results, reflects the Company’s revised long-term financial projections for the film, based on the $7.4 million in domestic box office receipts to-date.
