Roddy Piper Has Surgery; Monty Brown On WWE Deal; Problems On Set Of The Rock's Latest Film

WWE.com posted the following news on Roddy Piper's health issues. Hopefully he will recover quickly and doesn't suffer any complications from this surgery. Here's the article:

WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has been hospitalized in Oregon for surgery after being sent home from WWE’s tour of the United Kingdom. Piper’s original diagnosis was kidney stones, however, sources close to the situation say the former World Tag Team Champion’s surgery may be a result of disc problems.

Due to Piper's injury, he will not participate at Survivor Series and will be replaced by a Legend to be named later. Ric Flair will now be the lone captain of the Legends team and Kenny will captain the Spirit Squad.

WWE.com also posted this interview with former TNA star, Monty Brown. It's funny how when you read this, someone that may have never heard of him would never think he even wrestled elsewhere - anywhere. Here's the article:

When former NFL star Monty Brown explodes into action for the first time in a WWE ring, it will be the fulfillment of one of two very vast childhood dreams.

“I had two dreams as a kid,” Brown told WWE.com. “One was to become a professional football player; the other was to become a WWE Superstar. How many people can say they actually lived out both dreams?”

For someone who once crafted their own WWE Championship in junior high school, Brown claimed that signing with WWE is something he swore he would accomplish some day.

“[My classmates and I] made what we called the Wood Class Championship,” Brown reflected. “I still have that belt to this day. I felt that one day I would be working for this company.”

Growing up in a bedroom with wall-to-wall wrestling legends, Brown said that he engulfed his room with posters of greats such as Ricky Steamboat, Mike Rotundo and Harley Race – on one wall. On a separate wall, all to himself was the 16-time World Champion Ric Flair, a man Brown could potentially be meeting one-on-one once he begins his WWE career.

“[In WWE], the competition is deep,” admitted Brown. “But, if you don’t want to be involved with the best on the planet and be involved in a competitive atmosphere, you don’t do what you do. You choose to do something else.”

The thick-framed Brown is no stranger to competition. A collegiate All-American and also former NFL linebacker for both the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots, Brown has competed in Super Bowl games for both franchises.

Following his football career, Brown trained extensively towards his goal of reaching WWE. Under the guidance of the former WWE Superstar Dan Severn and the Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac Sabu, Brown is prepared to blast through Raw, SmackDown or ECW with his unique style.

“This is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” Brown claimed. “I’m pretty much going to bring a no-nonsense, hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners linebacker style with just a straight-ahead, destroyer-type mentality.”

Despite his confidence in his abilities, Brown said that before he makes his in-ring debut, he will continue to eat, breathe and sleep this business as he closely studies tape after tape of WWE action with his notebook in hand.

“Coming to WWE is a definite blessing and a privilege,” he said. “To come and work for the Mecca of all Meccas, I’m just anxious to start. I’m looking forward to getting in the mix and being part of the WWE family,” Brown added.

“Monty Brown is definitely on his way.”

The Boston Herald posted this news story regarding problems on the set of The Rock's latest movie project, 'Game Plan':

Massachusetts’ image in Hollywood suffered a major setback yesterday after local Teamsters threatened to walk off the Boston movie set of “Game Plan” over a holiday wage dispute, sources told the Herald yesterday.

Movie executives and leaders of Teamsters Local 25 - whose film unit has a notorious past that includes allegations of shaking down film producers in Boston - avoided a possible shutdown of the film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson after Walt Disney Co. agreed to pay union workers extra holiday wages for last week’s Veterans Day, sources close to the dispute say.

But the showdown, which involved tense talks between Disney and Teamsters officials yesterday, has left Disney with a bad taste in its mouth. One movie executive predicted it will harm the state’s film industry due to fears in Hollywood that new leaders at Local 25 want to reassert their past clout on movie sets.

“They took a foolish approach,” said one studio executive of the Teamsters’ heavy-handed walk-out threat yesterday.

Local 25 is being closely monitored by movie executives since Sean O’Brien became president of the union earlier this year.

O’Brien’s father, Billy O’Brien, used to head the local’s controversial movie unit when it was the target of federal probes earlier this decade over allegations of shakedowns and physical threats against movie-set employees in Boston.

Sean O’Brien, whose rise to the top of Local 25 has worried film-industry backers in Boston, has said he wants to work with Hollywood producers and has downplayed past Teamsters controversies.

But O’Brien, who couldn’t be reached for comment yesterday, has made it clear he wants the Teamsters to have a major say in the making of movies in Massachusetts.

Sources say O’Brien personally talked yesterday with Disney executives about the holiday wage dispute that threatened to stop filming of the made-in-Boston “Game Plan,” starring Johnson.
