BIO>>>>>>>>>>>>>Could there be another word to describe this specimen of athleticism than "perfection"? Shawn is a second generation superstar; he is the son of a former World Champion, "the Great One" Stan Stasiak, who won the WWF Championship in December 1973. Shawn is 6'4", weighs 242 pounds and hails from Oakville, Ontario. At just 30 years of age, he is certainly younger than most of the WCW roster, meaning he has years and years to prove himself. Shawn Stasiak was born Shawn Stipish in Haywood, California in 1971. He later moved to Oakville and graduated from White Oaks Secondary school where he was a provincial champion wrestler in the 130 kg weight class. After graduating, he went to Boise State University in Idaho where he continued wrestling and graduated with a degree in Communications. Shawn first tried his hand in the WWF, trying out in 1997 and began training heavily by early 1998. In April 1999 he made his debut, as the love slave of PMS - "Meat". This connotation did not do Shawn a bit of justice for his career, for it seemed that Shawn was more concerned satisfying the demands of PMS than his wrestling, and Meat got into an awful losing streak. It was a total injustice for an athlete of this caliber. Finally, he defected from PMS on September 6th and wrestled under his own name. Unfortunately, his career couldn't recover, and in Survivor Series 1999, he was put up to be the first "victim" of the American gold-medal winner, Kurt Angle, who was debuting and on a roll to the top. This was his only Pay-per-view Match in the WWF. Soon after the loss, Shawn was involved in some controversy when he was suspended from the WWF in December 1999 after allegedly taping conversations between a couple of WWF superstars without their knowledge. Stasiak's degree in Communications specialized in audio and video productions and occasionally he would bring a video recorder to the locker rooms to show the other wrestlers. Unfortunately, the situation in question was when he recorded a dispute between two wrestlers during a Montreal road trip, and it was interpreted as blackmail, and Vince McMahon suspended Stasiak at a moment's notice for unprofessional conduct, and weeks later fired him. Stasiak later said, it was "a reminder of how the world of business differs from the fun hijinks of college life." It is also unfortunate that the WWF lost one of their brightest up-and-coming stars, and they lost them to their biggest competitor, WCW. Shawn began training in the WCW's Power Plant under the tutelage of Paul Orndorff. Finally, on April 10, 2000, he was ready. He made his statement by attacking "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, causing him to lose to Jeff Jarrett and a shot at the World title. Shawn claimed that he, not Hennig, was the real Perfect One and that his day was done. This culminated to a bitter feud which led to a Pay-per-View match against Hennig in Slamboree on May 21st, and behold, Shawn wins, using Hennig's own finisher, the Perfect-Plex. Curt obviously saw greatness in this young wonder, and began siding with Shawn in his matches. Later, Stasiak feuded with G.I. Bro (Booker T, the present World Champ). They faced each other twice, once in Thunder on May 24th, and once in the Great American Bash on June 11th. While G.I. won both matches, Shawn held his own and then some, getting TWO 9-counts on the world-class competitor and lasting almost 14 minutes in the second match. Things only got better. On May 31, Shawn and "Main Event" Chuck Palumbo shocked the world by defeating Kronic for the World Tag Team Championships! The new champions named themselves "the Perfect Event" to combine their monikers. They held the belts for 40 days (longer than any tag team since March) defending them against teams such as 3 Count, Mark Jindrak & Sean O'Haire and MIA, before dropping them on July 9 back to Kronic at the Bash in the Beach PPV. Soon after, Shawn was sidelined for approximately 6 or 7 weeks with a leg injury obtained during a Worldwide taping against the Jung Dragons. He returned to action at Nitro on October 16th. Even before his return, there seemed to be trouble brewing within the Perfect Event. The following week on Nitro (October 23rd), Shawn abandoned Chuck during a match against the Harris Brothers. He was warned by Kevin Nash, their "Coach", to get back in line. Unfortunately, at Halloween Havoc on October 29th, Chuck inadvertently caused the Perfect Event to lose by accidentally nailing Shawn with his Jungle Kick. The next day on Nitro Shawn abandoned Chuck again during a match with Kronik. Kevin Nash, doing commentary, said that Shawn was no longer part of the Natural Born Thrillers. Little did he know that Shawn and the other Thrillers were setting him up. On November 8th's Thunder, just before Nash was set to face Shawn, the other Thrillers suddenly turned on him, shocking everyone watching. Shawn never officially left the Thrillers, they just used that angle to get rid of Nash. After feuding with Kevin Nash for about a week, Shawn and Chuck got down to business and defeated Tag Team Champs Alex Wright and Elix Skipper on November 20th's Thunder to regain the titles that they lost more than three months ago. Six days later, at the Mayhem PPV, the Perfect Event dropped the belts to Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page. However, the videotape revealed that Shawn was the pin victim when he wasn't the legal man in the ring. WCW commissioner Ric Flair ordered that the titles return to Stasiak and Palumbo. The two teams had a rematch at Starrcade, and there Nash and Page regained the tag team gold, for good that time. A battle royal was held on Nitro in late December to determine the #1 contenders to the tag titles at the Sin PPV in January 2001. Stasiak, Palumbo, O'Haire & Jindrak were the last four men and Thrillers leader Mike Sanders, who at that time was Commissioner, declared that all four were the winners and two of the four would face the champs at Sin. Those two turned out to be O'Haire and Palumbo, and they ended up winning the belts. Again, trouble brewed within the Thriller faction, with Shawn and Mark Jindrak thinking that they deserved the titles. They decided to challenge O'Haire & Palumbo for the belts at Superbrawl XI, held on February 18. Shawn challenged Chuck to a match on the February 12th edition of Nitro, and he emergedvictorious. Superbrawl came around, while both Shawn and Mark made an impressive showing, they came up a bit short, with O'Haire swanton bombing Shawn for the victory. Shawn and Mark never teamed again, and Mark was taken off WCW TV for good after that for unknown reasons. Shawn then returned to singles action and amassed a very impressive string of victories. He defeated Norman Smiley, Big Vito and even former Thrillers Johnny the Bull and Reno. He also obtained a new finisher, a neckbreaker. On March 12, on Nitro, Stacey Kiebler became Shawn's valet, and Shawn was renamed "the Mecca of Manhood". Bam Bam Bigelow challenged him to a match on the Greed PPV, to be held on March 18. There he defeated Bigelow, but not before adding "the Star" to his name, and debuting new pink trunks with five stars on them, along with new music. Shawn and Bam Bam had a rematch on Nitro the next night, and Bigelow emerged victorious. Shawn challenged Bigelow to one last match the following week on the last episode on Nitro. Bam Bam agreed, stipulating that if he won he got to tattoo Shawn. However, that did not come to pass, as Shawn beat Bigelow with ease in less than a minute and a half. | |
