Tidbits From ECW Philly Event: Rubber Barbed Wire, No Blood Enforced, 'This Show Sucks', Vince McMahon, Several Fights, More

Here's a plethor of tidbits from Saturday's night's ECW event in Philly. Credit Bill Bernitt / 3e6r.net hotline caller, and Sean McAffrey at Declaration of Independents website for this interesting information:

  • Dave Lagana & Paul Heyman booked the show. Steve Keirn (Skinner) was a match agent while Dean Malenko ran the locker room.
  • Show open with a 'WWE disclaimer' which led to a 'Fu** You Vince' chant.
  • There was fake barbed wire (rubber tipped) at the venue, but it was never used.
  • Intermission ran a little over an hour into the show, and the show ended before 10PM. Fans could not believe that the event was so short.
  • Several Vince McMahon lackeys were seen texting Vince McMahon the ongoings of the event.
  • Rival Philadelphia promoters were in the house to monitor what would be and what wouldn't be allowed at the event. Fans might remember last year, how some promotions were upset that Hardcore Homecoming got away with alot of stuff that other Philadelphia indy promotions wouldn't be able to get away with.
  • The building was filled with many noticable fans that used to follow ECW. However the majority of fans who attended were not. Lots of WWE fans in attendance, and alot of young fans.
  • Alot of younger fans thought that John Cena and/or Edge would be making appearances. They did not.
  • Kelly was booed out of the building. Deblasi you said it best about her. Fans can see 1/2 nude women easily on the net anytime they want. They don't even mind it on WWE TV for an extent. They don't want Barbie Dolls in ECW. And this blond is so 'lost' like people have been reporting, she thinks she's being booed because she's a 'heel'. What an idiot.
  • There were several fights after the show that were quickly broken up by the Atlas Security staff.
  • Vince McMahon wasn't at the show, but he told his people in charge to make sure that nothing got out of hand and told the wrestlers not to go nuts, hence the WWE-is show we got.
  • When Paul Heyman came out to cut his promo, he was greeted by a rather large 'This Show Sucks' chant. I remember the Minority Report webcast from 2 weeks ago when you guys specifically said that the fans would pull that exact chant for Paul E if the show bombed. It's not that the show bombed though. It just felt like a WWE house show with far lower talent. And as good as Kurt Angle is / was, he obviously is limited due to injuries.
  • Former ECW employees, The Blue Meanie & Rob Feinstein were in the house. John Zandig & Maven Bentley of CZW were also on hand watching the show.
  • Alot of fans who made the long drives (in bad weather I might add) from NY, CT, NJ, etc said they would not be coming back for a second show.
  • The DOI was told by an ECW source before the show that no blood was authorized on the show. Sabu was busted open hardway in his match by CW Anderson, as Vince McMahon did not want blood on the show.
  • Tommy Dreamer cut a promo about how his daughter was hurt earlier in the day and since she was ok, he made it to the event. A nice touch, but many of us didn't care since it had nothing to do with wrestling. He also tried to put over Big Show, which was not met well.
  • Big Show was booed out of the building and received 'Dont Come Back' chants.
  • Oddly, Vince McMahon did not want the screens/monitors in the building being utilized.
  • The paid attendance was 1410, although it felt like alot more people there.
