In the 1980s, Lex Lugar trained at the same gym as I trained, Rick Poston's Athletes Fitness Center in Tampa Florida. Befpre I go any further, let me make a few points:

A man should never consider it an option under any circumstances to hit a woman and I am very disappointed with Lugar. I do not like mind altering drugs. and do not like steroids. In fact. Ive spent much time talking with Larry Arthurs (U.S.A. masters champion in the bench press and a Captain in the Border Patrol) about our dislike for Steroids.

With that said however, II do not think steroids should be illegal for adults. I believe it is a police state tactic to arrest an adult who is found with steroids. An adult should is smart enough to know the risks and wants if he uses them to increase his bench press ect.

I consider it similar to an adult being forced to wear a life jacket (as some busy bodies have lobbied for) on a boat. Adults should be able to weigh the risks and take that chance if they want to. Otherwise you have what we have now...Adults being treated more and more like children by the Government. Also, children pick on the fact that the government is taking their parents authority away from them and they lose respect for their parents.

When I was a child in the 1960s I looked up to my dad with pride and said no one messes with my dad (as long as he obeyed the vastly fewer laws they had back then) We have 30 times the laws as our grandparents had to obey. As columnest Charley Reese said: " Each law passed takes away a decision we could have made for ourselves, because every law either commands us to do something or not to do something."

Our Founding Fathers would be very disappointed at us for not taking up for ourselves, as they thought, encroachments on Liberty that should have been stopped from the beginning. They looked at the rights they were losing. but modern Americans look myopically at the rights they still retain. Our Founders would not recognize this Country.

Lex Lugar drove a Porsche, lived in a nice house in Carollwood, and was always polite and soft spoken. I also trained at the same gym as Hulk Hogan (Naturite) in the late 1970s. I was there when he benched pressed 435lbs (he was on the way up). He is actually 6 foot 6 in height but weighed 315lbs. He was intelligent (got a music degree from my alumnus U.S.F.) soft spoken and always a gentleman; even when a guy in the gym stupidly called him a Skunk Ape (the southern version of big foot). As far as I can tell Lex Lugar is guilty of hitting a woman, and providing her a dangerous enviornment. He should not be guilty for taking steroids. Just the length of the prison term, is flat out tyranny.
